Angostura Reservoir
The Angostura Dam and Reservoir are located at the southeast edge of the Black Hills on the Cheyenne River in southwestern South Dakota near the Nebraska border. Recreation on this 4,706 acre reservoir is managed by the SD Department of Game, Fish and Parks for the Bureau of Reclamation and includes campgrounds, boat ramps, fishing pier and a marina. Fish species include walleye, bass, northern pike, perch, bluegill, and crappie.Because the reservoir is located on the southeastern edge of the Black Hills and is the only large body of water in an isolated area of arid southwestern South Dakota, it is attractive to migrating waterbirds that follow the eastern edge of the Black Hills. The lake also provides habitat for migrant passerine species that travel along the Cheyenne River on their twice-yearly flights to and from the north and the west. The best birding area is along the undeveloped western side.The area is open year-round and an entrance fee is required year-round.The Angostura Unit is part of the Pick-Sloan Missouri Basin Program.Current Reservoir Levels
Badlands National Park
Located in southwestern South Dakota, Badlands National Park consists of 244,000 acres of sharply eroded buttes, pinnacles and spires blended with the largest, protected mixed grass prairie in the United States. The Badlands Wilderness Area covers 64,000 acres and is the site of the reintroduction of the black-footed ferret, the most endangered land mammal in North America. The Stronghold Unit is co-managed with the Oglala Sioux Tribe and includes sites of 1890s Ghost Dances. Established as Badlands National Monument in 1939, the area was redesignated "National Park" in 1978. Over 11,000 years of human history pale to the ages old paleontological resources. Badlands National Park contains the world's richest Oligocene epoch fossil beds, dating 23 to 35 million years old. Scientists can study the evolution of mammal species such as the horse, sheep, rhinoceros and pig in the Badlands formations.

Belle Fourche Reservoir
Belle Fourche Dam and reservoir are features of the Belle Fourche Project. The reservoir is located on Owl Creek, about 8 miles east of Belle Fourche, South Dakota. The names means "Beautiful Forks" in French and refers to the confluence of the Redwater and Belle Fourche Rivers. The reservoir water surface area is 8,000 acres; available fish species include walleye, catfish, and white bass. Activities also include public use and picnic area, swimming, and boating. Big Bend Dam Lake Sharpe
One of six large lakes on the Missouri River. Area contains numerous village sites of early Indian culture. Recreation opportunities include camping, swimming, boating, fishing, and hunting outside of recreation areas.
Black Hills National Forest
The name "Black Hills" comes from the Lakota words Paha Sapa, which mean "hills that are black". Seen from a distance, these pine-covered hills, rising several thousand feet above the surrounding prairie, appear black. The Black Hills are in western South Dakota and northeastern Wyoming, covering an area 125 miles long and 65 wide. They encompass rugged rock formations, canyons and gulches, open grassland parks, tumbling streams, deep blue lakes, and unique caves.
Cold Brook Lake
On the south fringe of the Black Hills. Visit nearby Mt. Rushmore, Custer State Park, and Wind Cave National Park. Cold Brook Lake offers a great variety or recreational activities year around including fishing, swimming, ice fishing, skating, cross-country skiing archery, and electric motor boating.
