Allegheny National Forest You'll find many recreation opportunities here, including swimming, fishing, boating, water skiing, hiking and camping, and leisurely scenic drives. Dirt bikers, ATVers, cross country skiers, mountain bikers and snowmobilers will love the loop trails that wind throughout the hills. Foot trails ranging from one half mile interpretive trails, to the 87 mile North Country National Scenic Trail, traverse the terrain. Several reservoirs and over 700 miles of streams offer outstanding fishing opportunities. Congress designated 87 miles of the Allegheny River, as a component of the National Wild and Scenic Rivers System to protect its natural, cultural and recreational features. There are over one hundred undeveloped islands, including seven wilderness islands included in this stretch of river. The Hickory Creek Wilderness, Allegheny Islands Wilderness, and Allegheny National Recreation Areas offer rare opportunities to view unique ecosystems in a quiet, undisturbed setting.
Allegheny Portage Railroad National Historic Site The Allegheny Portage Railroad was the first railroad constructed over the Allegheny Mountains. This inclined plane railroad operated between 1834-1854 and was considered a technological wonder in its day and played a critical role in opening the interior of the United States to trade and settlement.
Allegheny Portage Railroad National Historic Site is located in southwestern Pennsylvania approximately 12 miles west of Altoona. Today's park covers 1249 acres. The main unit contains the Summit Level Visitor Center, the historic Lemon House, Engine House #6 Exhibit Shelter, the Skew Arch Bridge, picnic area and hiking trails. The Staple Bend Tunnel unit is located approximately 4 miles east of Johnstown, PA.

Aylesworth Creek Lake A 4-acre lake featuring a beach, picnic area and hiking trails. Located near East Jermyn, in Lackawanna County, about 10 mi upstream from Scranton on US 6.
Beltzville Lake Beltzville Lake is a 3,600-acre project, having a 947-acre lake. The Corps operates and maintains the dam and a small visitor center. Recreation is managed under a lease agreement with the PA Bureau of State Parks, which provides swimming, boating, water-skiiing, fishing, hiking, hunting in season and other outdoor activities at Beltzville State Park. Fossils of early marine life are found in outcropping in project area.
Blue Marsh Lake Blue Marsh Lake is a Philadelphia District project designed to provide flood control, water supply and enhanced water quality. It offers extensive recreational opportunities and attracts over a a million visitors yearly. Facilities include a day use area with swim beach, bathhouse, food concession, picnic areas, volleyball courts, pavilions available for rental; visitor center; three boat launches; and a stilling basin. Trails include a 30-mile multi-purpose hiking/biking trail and three interpretive trails, one being ADA accessible. Activities include swimming, picnicking, boating, water-skiing, hiking, equestrian and mountain bike riding, fishing, hunting, bird watching and other nature-oriented and outdoor activities. Located near historic Gruber Wagon Works and Union Canal.
